Due to this continuity of circles, "Shippo" is believed to bring harmony, balance, and fateful encounters. This pattern is said to signify harmony and balance. Furthermore, because this pattern suggests that relationships between people will continue endlessly, it is believed to be an auspicious pattern that brings good relationships (fateful encounters). This Uchiwa is perfect as a gift for a loved one, wishing for harmonious relationships.
The Uchiwa's Role in Cultural Exchange
Marugame Uchiwa has developed since the Edo period, establishing its reputation for production capacity and wide range of designs, maintaining its status as the largest Japanese Uchiwa fan producer. The Uchiwa is not merely a tool for cooling oneself in the summer; its beautiful design has long made it popular as a gift or an art object.
This "Auspicious Series Shippo" is handcrafted by artisans using traditional materials: bamboo sourced from local Kagawa Prefecture and Tosa Washi Japanese paper. Marugame Uchiwa fans were registered as Japanese Traditional Crafts by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1997. This designation indicates that this fan is not just an everyday item but a crucial element of Japanese culture that must be preserved and passed on.
What We Believe
We strongly hope to use this "Shippo" Uchiwa to convey the traditional Japanese aesthetic sense and the culture of valuing human "ties" (En) and "harmony" overseas, serving as a cultural bridge between Japan and the rest of the world.
